Responsible and lawful use

OpenScraper is a neutral technical tool: you choose the target sites, the data and what you do with it, and you are responsible for using it lawfully.

• Publicly accessible data — Collect data that anyone can see. Never use the service to reach content you are not entitled to access, or to break into a system.
• Personal data (GDPR) — If you collect personal data, you are its data controller: set a legal basis, a purpose and a retention period. Sensitive data and data about minors are off limits.
• Databases and copyright — Do not extract or reuse a substantial part of a protected database, or copyrighted content, without the rights holder's permission.
• Respect for target sites — Check the terms of the sites you collect from and keep a reasonable request rate: never degrade or overload a site.

What is OpenScraper? OpenScraper is a web scraping API platform. You call one REST endpoint, name a module and its parameters, and get the data back as structured JSON — from a Web Unlocker that works on any website, or from dedicated scrapers for specific sites.

Do I need to know how to code? No. You can run any scraper from the Playground in your browser, or ask Claude or ChatGPT to do it for you through our MCP server. Developers call the REST API directly, from curl, Python, JavaScript or any language.

Which websites can I get data from? Dedicated scrapers cover sites such as Leboncoin, Shein, OpenRent and any site's sitemaps. For every other site, the Web Unlocker returns the HTML of any page. No module for your source? Write to contact@openscraper.ai: new sources and custom fields can be added on request.

How does pricing work? Like a prepaid card: you add money to your account and receive Dollar Credits (1 credit = $1 of service), spent only on what is actually scraped. Pay as You Go has no commitment (top-ups from $1, credits valid for two months). The Super User Subscription, from $70 a month, gives 15% off every request and keeps your credits as long as you are subscribed.

Is there a free trial? Yes. Every new account gets $5 of free credit at sign-up, enough to test every scraper.

What happens if a request fails or my credits run out? You pay for items actually scraped: a failed request, to the Web Unlocker or to any scraper, is not billed. If your credits run out during a run, it stops cleanly and keeps everything scraped so far.

Can I use OpenScraper from Claude or ChatGPT? Yes. Add our MCP server (https://mcp.openscraper.ai/mcp) to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client and ask for the data in plain words. The assistant estimates the cost and shows a sample before any large run, then gives you the full results as an Excel or CSV file. Same modules, prices and credits as the API.

In what format do I get the data? As JSON from the API: in the same response for quick jobs, or by polling a run for large ones. Full results can also be downloaded as Excel or CSV from our interface.

Is web scraping legal? Collecting publicly accessible data is broadly lawful in the EU and the US, but you remain responsible for what you collect and how you use it: the terms of the sites, database and copyright rights, and the GDPR when personal data is involved.
